On June 12, 2017, Life Care Center of Yuma, Arizona, offered Coffee with a Cop.
The facility teamed up with the Yuma Police Department to give the residents a unique way to engage with the community. Fifteen officers came out to enjoy coffee and an assortment of doughnuts with the residents, associates and family members.
Residents chatted with the police and asked about community concerns.
“As a fellow officer, I enjoyed the company and being able to exchange stories with the officers,” said resident Sammy Mulkey. “I spoke to a lieutenant and told him stories about my time in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. He seemed very interested in what I had to say. We also talked a lot about modern officers and how things have changed.”
“It was a great opportunity to reassure our residents that they are still a part of our community,” said Cristal Vasquez, activity assistant.
