On May 5, 2017, Life Care Center of Yuma, Arizona, celebrated Cinco de Mayo.

The delicious day started off with a facility salsa tasting contest. Five associates entered their special salsa recipes, and almost every resident, along with their family members and other associates, participated in the tasting and voting. The facility awarded Marcia Garcia, physical therapist, the victory.

The facility also enjoyed churros locos, a traditional Mexican snack, followed by an ice cream fiesta.

After having their fill of delicious flavors, the residents gathered in the main dining room and took turns hitting a piñata, another traditional Mexican activity. The piñata was successfully busted, spilling assorted chocolate candies for all to enjoy.

Before the day ended, residents, family members and associates enjoyed a visit from Grupo Cucapah, a Mexican folkloric dance group.

“I thought it was perfect!” said resident Maria Avila. “I loved everything – the salsa tasting competition, the churros locos and the dancers. Everything was very original.”
