On Aug. 21, 2016, residents from Life Care Center of Yuma, Arizona, attended a San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks game at Petco Park in California.
Activities Director Heather McDermott was able to get tickets donated for associates and residents. Activity, therapy and nursing associates made plans to take several residents on a field trip to watch the game.
Before leaving for the trip, the associates gave each resident a Life Care shirt to represent their home. The residents loved the excursion, their shirts, singing songs in the car, looking at the beautiful scenery and stopping at Carl’s Jr. for lunch before the game.
“It is nice to get out,” said resident Edward Welch. “Life Care cares about our quality of life. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a baseball game. I had peanuts and popcorn like the old days.”
Not only did the residents enjoy the game, but they received San Diego Padres hats and key chains as souvenirs. The San Diego Padres won 3-1.
“It was wonderful to see the excitement on their faces when the opponent would make a home run,” shared McDermott. “Most of the residents had never attended a baseball game and were excited to get the opportunity to go.”
